a working hotel lot can be a bit tricky! There are lots of things which
can go wrong. Here are some tips and tricks that we have discovered
whilst building our own hotels which we'd like to share with you. Some
of these appear to be bugs which may get fixed in the planned 2nd Bon
Voyage patch!

To create a hotel
place a community lot, build your hotel - Don't forget your
bedrooms will need to use the new hotel lockable doors or they
can't be properly assigned to guests!
Once you are happy
it is ready to be played as a hotel then open your Cheat Console
(Ctrl, Shift & C) and type in the following cheat:-
changelotzoning
hotel
Save
and exit. Your community lot will now work as a hotel.

|
Do
not put doors or archways at a 45 degree (diagonal) angle because
this can cause house keeping and guests from getting stuck
|
|
The largest sized
lots with a beach front do not fit in the Maxis pre-made Vacation
neighbourhoods. Those will need to be placed in a custom Vacation
neighbourhood
|
|
Adding
a restaurant is optional - you do not need it in order for guests
to order room service.
|
|
When adding a
restaurant, make sure it is completely surrounded by regular
walls, otherwise waiting staff may not consider the restaurant
tables to be part of the restaurant and so may not be able to seat
and serve waiting Sims! You MUST put the podium inside the
restaurant.

|
If
you have a large hotel with lots of different floors, keep the bar
near to the restaurant, otherwise it will take too long for the
host or hostess to seat guests at the bar counter, whilst other
Sims will stand around and wait for a table, getting in the way!

|
Make sure ALL
bedrooms have a telephone and a dining table with dining chair
(not a lounge chair) - this can be either in the bedroom or
on an adjoining balcony.

|
If
you use the hot spring, make sure there is enough room all the way
around it so everyone has room to get in when it is busy.
|
|
On beachfront lots, flatten
out the beach part behind any buildings. It is best to do this
before placing items on the beach as they can disappear into the
sand, even if you've flattened the beach first. When this happens
your Sims can still use the items, but it might look a bit silly!

|
Not
all items will be useable even if you add a store or a shopping
area in the hotel. Computer games and magazine racks do not work,
they function as decorative items only. Clothing can't be bought
but can be tried on.

|
Only create one
entrance/exit door for a hotel bedroom, if you want to have a
balcony, make sure the balcony is enclosed and isn't shared with
another room.
|
|
Adding
kitchen items like fridges or microwaves to hotel guest bedrooms
will result in Sims trying to prepare meals in your restaurant
kitchen if there is one!
