How do I add Houses to the Sims 2?

There are 2 different methods for installing houses in this topic. Method 2 is our recommendation for being safer!

Please do be aware that a lot of our more recent houses may include additional separate package files. These are furniture packages which did not attach to the lot file during the lot creation process but which are still needed by the lot. If you find extra files besides the sims2pack file then you can install those manually the same way you add regular furniture files to your game

Method 1:-

We do NOT recommend using this method for installing houses that contain custom content from this or any other Sims 2 website, especially The Exchange!

Extract the contents of the ZIP to anywhere on your computer - double click on the file

Wait... when you see the blue box, choose Install - at the second confirmation screen click OK - the house is now installed along with all the contents of the sims2pack file.

Method 2:-

This method is much, much better because it allows you to see what is inside a house file before you add it to your game, helping you keep your Downloads folder organized, free of junk files, potentially problematic hacks or just unwanted furniture that shouldn't have been in the house to start with (we do check our houses before publishing them, but many creators do not). You can also use this method to install houses that require Stuff packs even if you do not have the Stuff packs installed.

Before you install your house you'll need a copy of the Clean Pack Installer. Install the program by running the exe you've downloaded from the site above. Simply follow the on-screen instructions.

To install your house - Extract the contents of the ZIP to anywhere on your computer - double click on the file. You should see a window like this one:-

The Lot Segment for Upload is the house file itself, any other items listed are included objects, walls, floors, Sims or skins for the included Sims that may be in the house package. By each one is a check-box, by un-checking it, you can choose not to install that particular item along with the house. If the house came with a family, you can choose to 'evict' the family easily by choosing from the top left menu options.

It is a BAD idea to NOT to install walls, floors and groundcovers that are included with a house file, installing the house may crash your game if it can't find its walls, floors or groundcovers.

It is OK to leave out custom furniture if you do not wish to put the item in your game, they will generally be replaced by an equivalent Maxis object when you enter the house.

It can be a GOOD idea to leave out hacks or game-overrides which may affect your game play adversely or not be designed to work with the expansions you may or may not have. Game-overrides are always highlighted in red in the list so they are easy to spot.

It is definitely a GOOD idea to leave out 'junk' files - these are easy to spot because they have long filenames made up of a random string of numbers and letters usually with a _0001 or _0002 at the end! These are copy files created by the default Maxis installer (method 1) if it finds an item it is trying to install is already included. These junk files are a pest because they waste space, can often be corrupted, lose their identification so its practically impossible to know who made the real version and they easily get caught up in lot packages when you make and share a new house file.
