If you find that a skin you've installed is crashing your game then there are 2  likely causes:-

• The skin texture is in the wrong format

• There is a problem with the mesh or the cmx file

Unfortunately a lot of the cmx and skn files in our zips were not acquired first hand from the mesh creator's site, many of the sites have closed leaving us to source those files from elsewhere which means that we cannot guarentee that they are in-tact, this may result in possible problems.

How do I find & fix problem skin files?

The Sims Skin Manager Plus is a free program from DJS Sims (to download you will need to click on the 'Accept Agreement' link at the bottom on the left - make sure you read the license agreement first!). This program will check the integrity of all 3 types of skins components and will move files which have problems into the same directory you've installed the Sims Skin Manager Plus to. It removes orphan files which do not have the other parts associated with them as well as moving out textures which are in the wrong colour depth or have other issues. This also allows you to preview skin textures as a flat skin so you can delete items you do not wish to keep, plus it allows easy creation of buyable skins!
