Kate answers:-
Overall
we prefer everyone not to publish our downloads elsewhere as stand alone
items.
Parsimonious is of
course, a free site, our online-time is pretty much 100% these
days, there is no text in our navigation so Simmers can easily
find what they're looking for, no matter which language they
happen to speak, so in that respect it couldn't be easier to get a
copy of our files and there isn't really any
good reason to publish our items 'as is' on
another website.
So... you don't
allow file-sharing?
We do not allow the
sort of file-sharing where other people can publish our items as
individual downloads on their own website with
or without credit, however private file-sharing is fine - if
you have a friend without internet access and you want to give
them our stuff on a CD then that's fine. If you want to email them
to someone who has had trouble accessing the site due to their
poor internet connection or if you want to share old items no
longer on the site with friends on a forum or via email then that's
fine. Of course if the site is down then we certainly don't mind
if people want to sent out our items to groups of friends so they
don't have to wait.
The aim of all our
policies is not to be unreasonable, or deprive people of full
enjoyment of our files, we have tried to negotiate the fine line
between making sure people can use our items, re-use them for
their own published projects, but yet avoiding allowing idiots to
post our files on their own sites without so much as a whisper of
credit because they're too stupid or lazy to have a go at making
their own downloads. It is irritating after so
much time and effort to see some dreadful
freewebs site hosting our files and claiming
they made them just so the site owner can get
hits and positive feedback, its nonsense and
we don't want to see it!
As far as file-sharing goes, we ask our
visitors to please use their common sense, and if you fear that
your proposed method of sharing steps over the line then simply
contact us in advance and ask if it is ok!
What
about if I want to include your items with my
own artwork: i.e. including one of your meshes
with a dress that uses it, or putting your
furniture in a house I am making and want to
share?
If you would like
to use our items as part
of your own Sims creations, i.e.
use our Sims 2 skins as part of a downloadable Complete
Sim, recolour or clone our furniture files etc, then please see
our re-use and re-distribution policies
- they are fairly generous in that we do allow
virtually all our items to be recycled into
new downloads with a credit link but please do
read the 'small print' before posting such
items online.
What
about uploading your Sims 1 objects to The
Sims Online?

Can
I share your Sims 1 Furniture, Walls &
Floors with a house I've made that uses them?
As
of 2008 we now allow visitors to include our
Furniture as well as our Walls & Floors
with their Sims 1 Houses (free or pay) - this
can be done either by adding the files to the
download zip of the house, or in a separate
'shopping list' zip available on the same page
as the house download. Please see this
topic for further details.
