In
short - No. Although I design my Sims 1 furniture in
3D (January 2004+) they
are not simply transferable to Sims 2 for a number of reasons.
The
essential, insurmountable problem is that The
Sims 2 is a LOW POLY game. A lot of the models for
my Sims 1 items are incredibly complex in terms of polygons and if
I were to import them into a Sims 2 object it is doubtful that
even a very fast computer would be able to load the object.
Additionally a lot of the objects have materials added to them
rather than textures, they are mostly not texture mapped, although
this can be done it is extremely time consuming, especially since
they would require extensive work to make the object itself simple
enough for import.
A lot of items also have a certain look because
there are a great deal of options in 3D Studio Max to create
interesting finishes in a flat render, but the ability of The Sims
2 environment to reproduce these materials is extremely limited,
and again, faking it is very time consuming and
difficult. All in all there
are very few items that could be converted without more time and
effort than I am frankly willing to spend!
Unfortunately it is
just a fact of The Sims 2's 3D environment that means that designs
which were entirely easy in The Sims 1 (which uses flat bitmap
images instead of 3D objects for furniture), just simply aren't
practical - there is nothing I can do about the reality of that
particular situation! Some people do tell me they're sad they
can't have of some of their Sims 1 favourites for Sims 2, but look
at this way, would have rather not had the Sims 1 version at all
so you wouldn't now feel deprived? No I thought not....
