Please
note that ALL posts here at Parsimonious are 100%
UNPAID (including mine). I wish it wasn't so, but
I'm afraid that is the case. There may be limited
funds available for artists to upgrade hardware or
purchase additional software/expansion packs, but
these are only available for residents who have been
with us for more than 6 months.
For
artist's posts, if you are UNDER 18 please state
your AGE clearly in your application, but please
note I cannot offer posts to anyone who is 12 years
old or younger for legal reasons.
No
other personal information is requested or required
for these positions unless otherwise stated in the
'To apply' sections below.

1.
On average between 10 and 20 hours a week of free
time. 2.
A basic working knowledge of Photoshop 5.5 or later 3.
A basic working knowledge of SimPE OR at the very
least a willingness to learn. You wont be asked to
edit, fix or test objects or any other files, but
you will need to be able to do things like
extracting graphics from wall & floor files or
matching up skins packages with preview photos using
SimPE. 4.
Some basic knowledge of html, i.e. being able to put
together a table, linking images, zips and text. You
not likely to be asked to create content pages
but you may be requested to edit other subsiduary
pages around the site from time to time, the links,
the faq & updating our news scroller. 5.
A good grasp of the English language. The Assistant
Administrator is likely to be asked to amend/edit
information topics from time to time as well as
communicating with visitors so it is helpful if you
can write coherently! 6.
An extensive understanding of The Sims 2 with
sound technical knowledge of general support
questions, i.e. how to uninstall and reinstall, how
to check for a GUID clash, how to install content,
using the CPI etc. 7.
Understanding of how to use an FTP program, although
training can be provided on using Filezilla after
probationary period has been completed (6 months).

1.
The ability to make INTERESTING NEW MESH objects
2.
To coherently create good textures for your meshes,
nicely shaded and presented with GOOD UV maps (no
nasty vertical striations from lazy planar maps
shoved over the entire object!)
3.
To make acceptable SHADOWS where appropriate to
accompany indoor objects
4.
An understanding of basic SimPE functions that
pertain to making new mesh objects, i.e.
understanding the basics of how the material
definitions work (TXMT's), how to make your objects
appropriately recolourable.
5.
Being able to produce meshes with an acceptable
POLYGON count (i.e. under 3000 faces/vertices per in
game tile the object occupies).
6.
An understanding of how to use SimPE's file table to
rule out unnecessary EP requirements from your work!
7.
Cloning off-site objects is acceptable BUT only if
the artist who made the object you are cloning
allows it! Please note that we do NOT allow the
creation of respository objects that require
off-site objects for their textures!
8.
The accepted post holder will be requested to
produce a minimum of 1 update every 2 months ON
AVERAGE, ideally more. Our system does not
accomodate individual lone items so an 'update'
needs to consist of a set of related items, full
sets of new items which belong together is
preferable, however posting intermittent sets which
consist of one base mesh item plus a selection of
colour options is also acceptable in addition to
full sets of different items.

|
1. The
ability to create interesting and well composed
screen shots of Sims, furniture sets and other
content we create here for download previews.
(Training will be provided).
2.
Knowledge of MySQL (training provided after
probationary period is complete)
3.
A background in web/graphic design
4.
Being able to speak other languages other than
English
5.
A good technical understanding of Sims 1 game
management (i.e. how to do a full GUID check, where
to install the different file formats, how to create
and extract far files etc).
6.
A solid understanding of CSS/Perl programming
(extremely desirable! )
|
1.
The ability to do basic BHAV/BCON editing to
tweak/improve your objects where necessary
2.
The ability to create respostory objects (it is not
widly used on Parsimonious because it is a difficult
concept to communicate to our multi-national
audience, but it is a very useful skill to know!)
3.
An understanding of morph mods and how to use them
to create tidy animating objects
4.
Knowledge of how to change/edit object animations
and sound (very advantageous!)

I feel
I should be honest, this is not only an unpaid
position, but a largely thankless one too. Visitors
have no interest or concern in the running of the
site, provided it is there when they want it to be
there. Nevertheless for the long term stability and
survival of the site it would be enormously
beneficial for me to have another pair of hands,
someone who is enthusiastic about the Sims and who
appreciates Parsimonious and would like to work
towards keeping it going.
It
is likely that ultimately the Sims series will long
out-live my interest in it, so eventually I may well
be looking to hand over ownership and control of the
site to whoever might take on this post. It's been a
consuming passion of mine for the past 5 years so
I'm keen that if I do decide to pass it on to
someone, that it goes to a person who has already
been involved with the project for a long time,
someone who understands the ethos of it and who
would be committed to it in the longer term.
|
I
*may* consider applications from artists who have a
general background in 3D design but little
experience of working with the Sims 2 package file
format BUT only if the work is of a very high
standard and only if you can demonstrate sufficient
commitment that I can rely on your to knuckle down
and study the various SimPE tutorials quickly - I do
not have time to teach anyone the basic processes,
obviously the more advanced stuff I will offer as
much support as I am able to the accepted candidate!
Our
Sims 2 Furniture section is pro rata per item the
busiest and most popular section on the site and
generally most items would expect to get 40-200%
more downloads than a broadly similar, non featured item posted to
ModTheSims2.

Because
of this is a position of trust and responsibility
the chosen candidiate will be given a 6 month
probationary period during which they will not be
given direct access to our system until they have
proven their reliability. This website is my baby
and I'm not quite brave enough to place it entirely
at the mercy of random strangers that I've met
online!
Please
email me webmistress@parsimonious.org
with some information of your relevant skills &
experience along with your reasons why you would
like this post.
|
Please
send a selection of previews of your work to me webmistress@parsimonious.org
- I would recommend keeping total attachment size
per email below 10Mb. If you need to send more
please send multiple emails.
As
our system is geared towards the presentation of
sets, rather than single, unrelated items, it is
recommended that your previews include at least a
couple of coherent sets.
Please
do not send the packages themselves with your
initial application, but make sure you have them
available in case you are asked to provide them
later on.
