World War II made a big impact on everyday clothing, military uniforms became an everyday sight, fabric and make-up was in limited supply and anything not strictly utilitarian was often considered un-patriotic. During the late 1940's women looked towards the simple, glamorous sophistication of Hollywood and the Paris fashion houses for relief from the post-war drudgery.
