Also referred to as 'The Jazz Age' and known for the invention of the Flapper Girl, the 1920's saw the introduction of fashionable dress for women with above-the-ankle hemlines and looser fitting 'boyish' outlines. Many western countries affected by the First World War saw women gain greater independence in society compared to earlier generations, and this was reflected in styles of 20's clothing which allowed for more freedom to move in comfort and, for the first time, allowed women to reveal stocking-ed legs and bare arms in polite society.
