The goth look stereotypically consists of black or dark coloured clothing adorned by silver or pewter jewelry, usually accompanied by heavy make-up. The look has an eclectic range of inspirations, from the romantic look of the Enlightenment era, through to the subcultures of BDSM and punk. Often there is an element of shabbiness or distress inherent in the gothic look reflecting its associations with a conscious rejection of established social values.
