There is some controversy about the origin of St. Valentine's day, some say he was a Roman soldier who was martyred for refusing to convert to Christianity, other experts say he was a priest in the service of the Roman Emperor, Claudius who jailed Valentine for defying him, others say it was originally a festival of worship of Juno, the Roman goddess of love and marriage. Regardless, St. Valentine's day was created by Pope Gelasius in 496AD to mark the occasion and over the centuries it has become known as the holiday of love and romance and the giving of token's of affection to your loved one.
