    Joining Parsimonious

If you are a custom content creator who would like to join Parsimonious then please keep in mind the following strict requirements:

  • Technical Competance
  • Your items do not need to be completely perfect every time, but we do require them to be ideally safe for our visitors to use and carefully made. You will be asked to try and keep up-to-date with any changes in creating processes and to fix any issues with your content (asking for help is acceptible so long as it's something I know how to help with!).

  • Design Quality
  • Like our visitors, we appreciate originality and good quality designs. The standard expected of your artwork will vary depending on the type of content you make. For example: objects and fashion items are expected to be of broadly similar quality to those that come with the game, however walls, floors and houses have a much higher requirement to be original and interesting (because the stuff that comes with the game is very bland!)

  • Minimum commitment of content
  • Our contributors are expected to generate a reasonable quantity of content. There is no fixed schedule of updates, but artists who add few items and then stop are likely to be removed as members after some time. The amount deemed good enough to not be removed will depend on the type of content you make, but broadly around 200 hours of creating time is considered a reasonable minimum contribution within a year or two of joining.

  • File Preparation & Upload
  • For almost all sections you will need to create your own preview pictures and zip and upload your content to the website, filling in any required information in a form provided. The upload system is easy to use and new artists are given as much help as they need to use it so you don't need to be tech savvy.

Please be aware that you will need a minimum desktop resolution of 1600 x 960 for the following sections: Sims 2 Houses, Sims 2 Furniture, Sims 3 Houses, Sims 3 Furniture, Sims 3 Worlds, Sims 4 Houses, Sims 4 Wall & Floor. You will also need a graphics editing program of some variety to edit screenshots, however MS Paint will do and training will be given if needed!

    Additional Information

If you create content which uses other people's creations (i.e. furniture in houses, meshes with clothes etc), then you can only use quality distributable content. We do not do shopping lists, so if permission cannot be obtained to include an item, we do not use it. Also excluded are items which have extrodinary practices required to install them (i.e. custom modular steps for Sims 2 houses) or which over-ride standard game content.

On the plus side we have effectively unlimited bandwidth. There is no restriction on the file size of your uploads, nor the amount of content you can upload. Artists who have items published elsewhere are welcome to also upload them to Parsimonious (so long as they meet our general criteria above). Anyone who wishes to transfer a large volume of items will be given help organizing and uploading files as needed.

    Additional Requirements

It is not necessary, but an understanding of HTML is very useful if you want to make the most out of posting to your Studio news page.

    Applying

If all of the above hasn't put you off and you would like to submit an application then please email me attaching some photos of things you have made:

  • Email Kate
  • I suggest keeping attachments under 10Mb but feel free to send multiple emails. You don't need to send the actual files but please make sure you do have the files available as I may ask you to send them to me for a closer look.

At the moment we do not have the site setup for various content types, but this can be done if you have sufficiently nice items that you wish to share that we don't already host with the caveat that they can't be a huge pain in the arse to publish (so probably no complicated modded objects or Sims 1 houses with shopping lists etc).
